Saint Francis' Training Center contracted with the American Heart Association in 1997 to operate as an American Heart Association Training Center. The Training Center (TC) is a key component of the Emergency Cardiovascular Care Training Network. Each Training Center signs an agreement with the American Heart Association (AHA) to provide Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic LIfe Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training programs to the community. Saint Francis' Training Center is dedicated to providing quality programs and helps strengthen the chain of survival in Missouri.

To build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. That single purpose drives all we do. The need for our work is beyond questions. Saint Francis' Training Center supports the AHA mission through administrative, educational and quality assurance support of its AHA instructors.
The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all AHA courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the AHA.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Heartcode Anywhere top
The American Heart Association's Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Heartcode Anywhere course is an alternative way to complete ACLS from the traditional classroom setting. Even though the Heartcode Anywhere course is approved for both renewal and initial courses, it was originally developed for the experienced provider in mind.
Course completion consists of two parts, the computer-base cognitive program and the skills testing.
Part one: After registering for the course, participants will receive an online license key to ACLS Heartcode and instructions. Participants must print the completion certificate to bring to the skills session.
Part two: Participants enroll in a skills testing session offered at Saint Francis Medical Center within 30 days of completing part one. Testing includes - correct bag-mask ventilation and CPR 1-rescuer test. You may practice your skills prior to testing at the same location as the testing area by arriving early for your scheduled time. Testing takes approximately 30 minutes.
After the participant presents a Part one certificate, successfully completes Part two skills testing, provides a current copy of HCP CPR card and payment has been secured, an AHA ACLS completion card will be issued by mail within 7-10 business days.
Target Audience
Health care providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient and/or require credentialing in ACLS
Saint Francis employees
Training and Development offers a combination of live and renewal ACLS classes for those employees that are required to maintain current ACLS status and can attend these courses at no charge. If an employee chooses to complete the ACLS Anywhere course, Training and Development will not cover the cost of the program that is required. Part two skills testing and issuing of the card will be offered at no charge to employees. Contact the Saint Francis Training and Development department for information.

Cost: $225
To secure enrollment, participants must make suitable arrangements for payment through the Training and Development department. At that time, the license key and instructions will be issued and the Part two skills testing is scheduled. Payment must be secured at the time of Part two skills testing and before the card is issued.

Target Audience

Prerequisite
Completion of the AHA "Core Instructor Course" which will be included in the precourse packet. This course requires some computer skills and on average can take 6-8 hours to complete, depending on your internet and computer speed.
Participants must be a current provider (2010 Guidelines) in the discipline they will be teaching and have a current healthcare provider CPR card.

The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Provider Course is a 2-day course designed to enhance your skills in the treatment of arrest and peri-arrest patients through active participation in a series of simulated cardiopulmonary cases. These simulations are designed to reinforce important concepts including, identification and treatments of medical conditions that place the patient at risk for cardiac arrest, the Basic Life Support (BLS) Primary Survey, ACLS Secondary Survey, ACLS algorithms and Effective resuscitation team dynamics. The goal of the ACLS provider course is to improve the quality of care provided to the adult victim of cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies.
To successfully complete the ACLS Course and obtain your card you must, Pass the 1-rescuer CPR/AED, Actively participate, practice and complete all skills and learning stations , Pass the Megacode testing station as a team leader and pass the written, closed book exam with a minimum score of 84 percent.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Renewal Heartcodetop
ACLS Renewal Heartcode is a computer based program where students “virtually” assess and formulate treatment for cardiopulmonary arrest patients through 12 interactive hospital-based scenarios. A 2-hour Prep class is required for SFMC employees to not only register and prepare them for the computer program but to also update them on 2010 Scientific Guidelines and test their ACLS/CPR skills and to practice megacode. The Prep class is only offered to SFMC employees; non-employees should call 331-5107 to obtain information regarding ACLS Heartcode Anywhere.

Basic Life Support (BLS)/HS Instructor Coursetop
This one-day program prepares both BLS and HS American Heart Association Instructor candidates to learn how to disseminate the science, skills and philosophy of resuscitation programs and gain the knowledge necessary to teach CPR/First Aid.
There are two levels of instructors. BLS Instructors are generally healthcare providers that can teach all levels of CPR/First Aid Courses including healthcare professionals. The Heartsaver Instructor is typically someone who teaches primarily non-healthcare providers, i.e: teachers.

CPR Heartsaver Adult/Child/AEDtop
The CPR Heartsaver Adult/Child course teaches adult/child CPR, choking and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). The course contains updated content and science from the 2010 American Heart Association guidelines for CPR and ECC. After successful completion, the student will receive a Heartsaver card.
Target audience
Generally, for those with limited or no medical training who need credentialing in CPR.
Saint Francis Medical Center employees required to take this class are: CNAs, APs (Heart Hospital and ICU), social service, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, clinical nurse managers, directors, managers, assistant managers, case managers, van drivers, arrhythmia technicians, operating room technicians, Fitness Plus staff, phlebotomists, NA transporters, neurophysiology and Womancare radiology technicians.

CPR Healthcare Provider Onlinetop
The American Heart Association has developed an alternative way for healthcare providers to complete Healthcare Provider (HCP) CPR from the traditional classroom setting. This program is approved for both renewal and initial credentialing. Course completion consists of two parts: the online, cognitive part and skills testing.
Part One: Access the online portion of the HCP course using the course access key, given to you when you register, complete requirements and pass the written test with a minimum score of 84%. Print the completion certificate.
Part Two: Participants enroll in a skills testing session offered at Saint Francis within 30 days of completing part one. Testing includes one rescuer CPR, two rescuer CPR with an AED and one and two rescuer Infant CPR. Family/Friends/Adults/Child/Infant CPRtop
This course is designed for anyone who takes care of children, daycares, parents, grandparents and babysitters. This is a non-credentialing course.
Target Audience
Family and friends who want to learn CPR, but do not need a course completion card are encouraged to attend. The first aid portion of the course is targeted for those caring for infants, children or others who need in-home care, but who also do not need course completion credentials. Participants that require a Heartsaver completion card in CPR must complete an adult CPR skills test for an additional $5 to receive a completion card.

Heartsaver First Aid Class top

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider Coursetop
During this 2 day PALS course the goal is to aid the Skills taught include recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest; the systematic approach to pediatric assessment, effective respiratory management; defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion; intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.
To successfully complete the PALS Course and obtain your card you must: pass the Child 1-rescuer CPR/AED and Infant and 1 and 2-rescuer CPR testing station, actively participate, practice and complete all skills station and learning stations, pass 2 PALS core case tests as a team leader and pass the closed book written exam with a minimum score of 84%.

Pediatric Healthcare providers who participate in the resuscitation of infants and children at risk for cardiac and/or respiratory distress/ and/or required to have current credentialing in PALS.
Prerequisites

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Renewaltop
To successfully complete the PALS Course and obtain your card must: pass the Child 1-rescuer CPR/AED and infant 1 and 2-rescuer CPR testing station, actively participate, practice and complete all skills stations and learning stations, pass 2 PALS core cases tests as a team leader and pass the closed book written exam with a minimum score of 84%.
Target audience
Pediatric healthcare providers who are required to maintain current PALS status.
Prerequisite
Current HCP CPR and PALS. Students are given materials to study prior to class and must be ready to turn in a copy of their Pre-Course Assessment at the start of class.

Heartsaver Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED and Pediatric First Aidtop
This course is designed for anyone who takes care of children, daycares, parents, grandparents and babysitters.
Target Audience
Designed for those involved in child care who have a duty to respond to a first aid or cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements such as child care workers, teachers, foster care providers, camp counselors, youth organizations and coaches for children's sports. Participants will receive a card upon course completion.

Safesitter CPR Class
Safe Sitter is a medically accurate babysitting preparation program designed for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. This national program teaches sitters how to have fun with children, to recognize a medical emergency and know the appropriate action to take, tips for handling specific ages, injury prevention, safety for the sitter and the children, rescue breathing, care of the choking child, CPR and the business of babysitting. The curriculum has been updated in 2012 to include CPR, “Online Safety”, and social media.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program
Effective, January 1, 2012, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) will have new requirements for the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). NRP was developed to introduce the concepts and basic skills of neonatal resuscitation to physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and emergency service personnel who participate in neonatal resuscitation.
Course completion will now consist of two parts – first, an online test covering content, and then a live classroom skills portion. Participants study the comprehensive textbook and then take the mandatory online exam. Upon successful completion of the online exam, participants print a certificate for verification, which admits them to a class with an NRP instructor for skills training, simulation and debriefing. Participants will be required to demonstrate proper resuscitation skills during the live classroom program.
Once the online testing process has been initiated, the AAP requires it be completed within 14 days. Participants then have up to 30 days to complete the in-person skills test.
Saint Francis employees can take the course free of charge. For non-employees the program fee is $120, to be paid at the time of registration by a check made payable to Saint Francis Medical Center. NRP cards will be sent to you by the course instructor. In addition, this course has been approved for contact hours by MONA.
Saint Francis Medical Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by Missouri Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Basic Arrhythmia
Basic Arrhythmia is a 2-day class teaching a systematic approach to interpreting cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias and basic treatment modalities; identifying normal and abnormal cardiac anatomy and cardiac conduction and the ability to measure and calculate information from rhythm strips. This class is recommended prior to taking ACLS but is not required.
