The Emergency and Trauma Center nearly tripled in size, adding almost 30,000 square feet to the 11,600 square feet in the original facility.

An angel statue and guardian angel prayer wall etching greet patients and their loved ones, helping provide a sense of calm and comfort.

03. 32 total rooms
32 total rooms — 26 private patient rooms, two triage rooms, three trauma rooms and one procedure room — provide efficient, faster treatment.

04. Identical rooms for flexibility
All rooms are identical and can be used for all types of patients, which creates more flexibility and efficiency.

05. Treatment carts
Rather than having rooms dedicated to treating particular conditions, efficiency increases as Medical Center staff now will bring the appropriate treatment cart, kept in the nurses station, to patient rooms.

06. Bathrooms
Each patient room has direct access to a private or adjoining bathroom.

07. 64-slice CT scanner
The Emergency Department houses Saint Francis’ second 64-slice CT scanner, where approximately half of all CTs are done.

08. Radiology
Both a radiology technician and radiologist are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to perform and read CT scans.

This decorative glass wall was designed by Rick Essner, CHFM, director of facilities management at Saint Francis. On its other side is the physician dictation and work area, a private space that is also ideal for colleague consultation.

10. Dictation and work area
The physician dictation and work area sits in the middle of three pods of patient rooms, allowing physicians to see in any direction inside the Emergency Department.

11. Nurses station
A nurses station is found in each of the three open-concept pods, allowing staff to easily monitor activity in all directions and providing a larger workspace.

12. Trauma room
The trauma room has three bays divided by lead-lined, marker-board lockers that serve as X-ray barriers and provide more privacy and storage.

13. Waiting room
Each of the three pods within the Emergency and Trauma Center has an internal waiting room, providing more privacy for families and closer proximity to loved ones receiving care.

14. Decontamination room
The decontamination room, accessible from inside or outside the Medical Center, offers a series of showers for quick contamination removal to those exposed to toxic substances.

15. Special procedure room
The special procedure room can accommodate splinting, casting or suturing and is near the trauma bays and 64-slice CT scanner, making it convenient for post-procedure imaging, if needed.
