In November 2007, Saint Francis introduced a new approach to the way it performs joint replacments with the Center for Joint Replacement & Revision – the premier option for total joint replacement in the region. The Center for Joint Replacement & Revision boasts an unprecedented patient experience in which patients are treated as healthy adults undergoing a procedure that will allow them to return to an active life, rather than as "sick."
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Missouri has designated Saint Francis Medical Center as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip SurgerySM. The designation is based on rigorous, evidence-based, objective selection criteria established in collaboration with expert physicians' and medical organizations' recommendations. The program is part of The Blues® efforts to collaborate with physicians and medical facilities to improve the overall quality and safety of specialty care. To be designated, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield evaluated the range of services in each area of expertise, experience and training of surgeons, quality management programs, clinical pathways, and patient involvement in education and shared decision making.

Saint Francis Earns National Recognition for Orthopedic Excellence and Innovation by Becker's Hospital Review
Saint Francis Medical Center has been named to Becker’s Hospital Review 2012 list of 100 hospitals nationwide with great orthopedic programs. The list recognizes hospitals that have demonstrated continual innovation in orthopedic treatments and services, along with patient-centered care and forward-thinking research.
Selection was based on extensive research and review of past achievements and industry benchmarking. Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team analyzed data from U.S. News and World Report, Healthgrades®; and Thomson Reuters, as well as the American Nurses Credentialing Center for Magnet status and Blue Cross Blue Shield Association for Blue Distinction status. After examining rankings and accolades, the team looked closely at each hospital’s program and conferred with industry experts.
