A recent survey released by PricewaterhouseCoopers’ (PWC) Health Research Institute shows employers are increasingly concerned about health benefit plan spending and engaging employees in managing their own health.
Employers citing wellness as important or critical to their business increased from 61 percent in 2009 to 68 percent this year; those reporting disease management as important or critical rose from 47 percent to 51 percent during the same time period.
Paul Veronneau, PWC principal and U.S. healthcare payor leader, says, “Employers recognize it is better to manage the health of their work force than to manage the cost of illness, and they want their health plan to help manage the entire health continuum.”
