Rehabilitation

Saint Francis Medical Center's Heart Hospital offers a cardiac rehabilitation program that was one of the first programs in the state certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). Certification is awarded after programs demonstrate quality care that meets national standards. Cardiac rehabilitation includes:

Phase I

Phase I of cardiac rehabilitation begins at Saint Francis Medical Center as patients recover from their heart episode. During this inpatient phase, patients and their family members meet with dietitians to discuss dietary changes to help prevent future heart problems. Physical and occupational therapists also work with patients to help them regain strength with simple exercises.

Phase II

Phase II of cardiac rehabilitation is administered on an outpatient basis. This 12-week program is personalized to meet individual patient needs and assures optimal recovery. Sessions are open to family members and include education and information on exercise, nutrition, lifestyle changes and heart medications.
