Veena D. Divecha, MD, radiation oncologist at Cape Radiation Oncology, has been credentialed by MD Anderson Physicians Network® through Saint Francis Medical Center. This provides her access to evidence-based treatment protocols and processes developed by The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the nation’s leader in cancer care.
“Saint Francis strives to bring an unprecedented level of cancer care to patients throughout the region, and our affiliation with Physicians Network helps us meet this goal,” says Steven C. Bjelich, FACHE-D, President and Chief Executive Officer at Saint Francis. “By assuring that you and those you love have access to a team of cancer specialists comprehensive and cutting-edge services and national quality standards and treatment plans, Saint Francis is raising the bar for cancer care in our region.”
A subsidiary of Houston’s MD Anderson Cancer Center, Physicians Network provides for affiliations with other oncology providers — like the Saint Francis Cancer Institute — to promote quality management and best practices in cancer care. The rigorous credentialing process involves the standard review of physician licensure, board certification and medical malpractice history, as well as an on-site review of the physician’s documentation practices and the facility environment.
Saint Francis’ Cancer Institute was approved as an affiliate of Physicians Network because of the comprehensive, leading-edge, quality care it provides. Saint Francis is one of only a few Physicians Network affiliate hospitals in the nation and the only one in the region.
Through this affiliation, 24 local cancer specialists have the opportunity to collaborate with their 750 MD Anderson peers, sharing insights and gaining the added value of consultations. This brings access to decades of research and proven cancer care best practices that are developed and consistently monitored through a careful evaluation of which medicines, procedures and treatments are bringing the best results for cancer patients. Through participation in the Physicians Network program, Saint Francis can develop the strongest defense against almost every type and phase of cancer, even the rarest forms of the disease.
“Our collaboration combines the experience and expertise of the best cancer specialists in the region with the best in the nation, bringing you greater hope, more options and treatment guidelines that lead to better outcomes,” says Bjelich.
Divecha is board certified by the American Board of Radiology. She earned her medical degree from the Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences in Karnataka, India, and completed her residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City.
