Saint Francis Medical Center proudly welcomes hospitalist Kellie Rogers, DO, to the Saint Francis Medical Staff. She joins 10 other hospitalists at the Medical Center in caring for inpatients.
Hospitalists specialize in the care of hospitalized patients, affording them more time with patients because they do not have outpatients to see as well. Because hospitalists treat patients at the Medical Center exclusively, they have intimate knowledge of Saint Francis’ resources and specialists. Hospitalists work with patients’ primary care physician throughout hospitalization to ensure continuity and coordinate all aspects of patient care, from admission to follow-up. This gives patients the best care possible, and studies indicate hospitalist care can improve clinical outcomes and reduce mortality, readmission rates and costs.
Rogers was drawn to inpatient care because of the unique challenges it brings. She enjoys the process of discerning the core problems causing patients’ conditions, which are often complex by the time they result in hospitalization. She has special interest in working in intensive care environments and says one of the most rewarding aspects of treating inpatients is helping the very sick get well and return to their normal activities.
She earned her medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Mo., and completed a residency in internal medicine at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.
When not working with patients, Rogers enjoys spending time with her family, being active in her church, and participating sports and outdoor activities.
