The Missouri Society for Respiratory Care (MSRC) recently named Lisa Newcomer, RRT, CPFT, as the organization’s president. Newcomer, who is the director of the Sleep Disorders Center and Durable Medical Equipment at Saint Francis Medical Center, will serve the MSRC as president for two years beginning in July. She will lead the organization’s efforts to advance the science, technology, ethics and art of respiratory care in Missouri. Newcomer replaces Rose Shafer, BS, RRT, also of Saint Francis, as the organization’s leader.
As a chartered affiliate of the national American Association for Respiratory Care, the MSRC brings national efforts to Missouri, hoping to improve pulmonary health concerns at a state level. The organization aims to develop the respiratory care profession while providing education to the public – promoting pulmonary health and disease prevention. The MSRC also facilitates cooperation and understanding among physicians, hospitals, government organizations and other agencies interested in respiratory care.
Newcomer started her career in respiratory care at Saint Francis in 1989, first working as a staff therapist at the Medical Center and later serving as the manager of the Respiratory Therapy department. Her clinical experience, along with time spent in respiratory education and the home care industry, equipped her for her current role as the director of the Sleep Disorders Center and Durable Medical Equipment at Saint Francis, as well as for her new role as MRSC President. Newcomer also serves on the Board of Directors for The Friends of Saint Francis.
