The Missouri Hospital Association (MHA) recognized Saint Francis Medical Center for its contributions to the HERO (Hospital Employee Relief Operation) fund following the May tornado that destroyed St. John’s Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Organizations and individuals that raised $1,000 or more for the HERO fund were honored with the award. Saint Francis contributed $5,000 to the fund. More than $455,000 has been distributed to 730 hospital employees who were affected by one of the natural disasters in Missouri in 2011.
“The Saint Francis Family was shocked by the devastating tornado in Joplin and its effect on those who worked at St. John’s Mercy,” says Steven C. Bjelich, FACHE-D, Saint Francis President and Chief Executive Officer. “We wanted to assist financially and are humbled by this recognition for something we felt compelled to do for our fellow workers in need.”
Funds go to help hospital employees who are full- or part-time Missouri hospital employees significantly affected by this year’s disasters and who live in one of the FEMA-designated counties.
Saint Francis Medical Center is located at 211 Saint Francis Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO. For more information call 573-331-3000.
