Saint Francis Welcomes First Baby of 2012

Family BirthPlace Ends Year of Milestones

Saint Francis Medical Center celebrated the first baby delivered in Cape Girardeau in 2012. At 5:40 am Sunday, January 1, 2011, a baby boy was welcomed into the world by proud parents Sinthia and Brandon Whitworth and big brother Brandon, of Chaffee, Mo., and caring Family BirthPlace nursing staff. Michael J. Jessup, MD, obstetrician/gynecologist at Saint Francis, delivered the six-pound, six-ounce, 19-inch baby Mason Joaquin. To further welcome the new arrival, the Medical Center presented the Whitworth family with a special basket of baby items.

The Saint Francis nursing staff recalled many unique names given to children throughout 2011, but some names appeared more often than others at the Saint Francis Family BirthPlace. For girls born at Saint Francis in 2011, the most popular name was Addison; and for boys, Michael and Wyatt. These names were followed closely by Emma, Isabella and Kylie for girls, and David, Eli and Mason for boys. Names new on the list for 2011 were Lillith and Piper for girls and Ashton and Newt for boys. A popular name for both boys and girls was Payton.

This year was a year for breaking records in the Family BirthPlace. A new annual record was set with 1,003 deliveries, including 19 sets of twins. The busiest month was December, with 103 deliveries – the most ever delivered in one month at Saint Francis. A new record for number of deliveries in a single day was set on November 11, with 11 births. Also in 2011, Saint Francis celebrated its 10th anniversary since opening the Family BirthPlace and Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) September 10, 2001.
