Oncologist/Hematologist Brings Cancer Expertise to Perryville

January 17, 2013

Saint Francis Medical Center and Perry County Memorial Hospital are pleased to announce that Justin D. Floyd, DO, medical oncologist and hematologist, will begin seeing patients at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville on January 17. Floyd’s arrival gives Perryville’s cancer patients increased access to the technological advances and clinical expertise of the oncology team at Perry County. To help the hospital better serve the community, Floyd’s services will include outpatient consultations regarding hematologic and oncologic disorders, as well as the administration of chemotherapy, in addition to continuing to see patients at Saint Francis.

After earning his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Mo., Floyd completed his internship and residency at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville – where he was named “intern of the year” and received the Resident Master Teacher Award. He then completed a fellowship in hematology/medical oncology at the University of Missouri-Columbia in Columbia, Mo. Floyd is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine.

In addition to his clinical expertise and special interest in toxicities of chemotherapy, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and male breast cancer, Floyd has a passion for research and teaching. He lectures on a variety of cancer-related topics and serves as an assistant professor of clinical medicine at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis.

As a Medical Partner of Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Floyd is also affiliated with the region’s only dedicated Heart Hospital Cancer Institute, located on the Saint Francis campus. Patients at the Cancer Institute have access to advanced treatments and technology under one convenient roof. The Cancer Institute is a fully integrated facility housing the most advanced cancer-fighting technology, including a permanent, dedicated PET/CT scanner, the region’s only CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System, one of only three in the state and one of 150 in the world, and a 35-bay chemotherapy infusion center designed by patients.
