Saint Francis Medical Center is remembering American Heart Month in February — and opening the region’s first and only dedicated Heart Hospital and Cancer Institute in July.

February is American Heart Month, which makes it the perfect time to have a heart-to-heart about cardiac health. Every day, more than 2,300 Americans die from heart disease — in fact, it is the leading cause of death in Missouri. Thankfully, a healthy diet and active lifestyle can prevent heart disease from happening at all.

The New Saint Francis Heart Hospital and Cancer Institute

In July, Saint Francis will be opening our innovative, doctor- and staff-designed Heart Hospital. The new facility’s array of enhancements will give superior care to the region, offering patients:

  • A highly skilled cardiac team dedicated to providing total care
  • A full range of heart services and cutting-edge technology in one location
  • More acute care beds and recovery bays
  • Private rooms, a cardiac intensive care unit and an in-house pharmacy
  • A family-friendly design that keeps loved ones near
  • Closer proximity to the new Gene E. Huckstep Emergency and Trauma Center, which saves time and the lives of emergency patients having heart attacks

Saint Francis’ progressive team approach is at the heart of our cardiac care, with an entire group of experienced and trained professionals delivering treatment toward superior patient outcomes.

Heart & Health Screenings

Know your risk for heart disease by scheduling your FREE Heart & Health Screening. Screenings will be held February 15, February 17 and February 18 from 8 to 10 am and February 16 from 7 to 10 am. Screenings will be performed in the Saint Francis Health and Wellness Center.

Thanks to a grant from the Cape Girardeau County Senior Citizens Services Fund Board, any Cape Girardeau County resident age 60 and older is eligible to receive the Lipid Profile Plus Glucose screening free once each year, while funding lasts.
