Advanced Technology Utilized in New Cath Lab
The Heart Institute at Saint Francis Medical Center has acquired advanced flat-panel technology to significantly improve imaging in its new cardiac catheterization lab. Offering more-detailed images of arteries from head to toe (including coronary, carotid and iliac arteries), the new technology enables physicians to perform an impressive range of procedures.
"The new lab uses flat-panel technology to acquire data that enhances quality and offers superior imaging," says Billy A.F. Hammond, MD, FACC, cardiologist on staff at Saint Francis. "Additionally, the new technology uses less radiation, making it safer for patients, physicians and staff."
A picture archiving and communication system (PACS) is integrated into the new cath lab to allow cardiologists to see previous imaging studies during an interventional procedure.
