Childbirth Classes Prepare Parents for New Arrival

Prenatal education is an important part of your prenatal care. Whether you and your partner are first-time parents or have previously experienced the wonders of childbirth, you can never be too prepared for the arrival of a new baby.

"Taking care of yourself, anticipating bodily changes, and learning how to cope with the physical and emotional stress of labor enable you to actively participate in the birth of your child," says Suzanne Solari-Price, RN-C, NP, an advanced practice nurse on staff at Saint Francis Medical Center's Family BirthPlace.

The comprehensive childbirth classes at Saint Francis cover a full range of topics, including anatomy, labor signs and stages, pain control options (including epidurals), labor techniques, postpartum care, Caesarian birth and basic infant care. Women are encouraged to take part in childbirth classes after the first trimester.
