Saint Francis Medical Center's Neurosciences Institute is a regional leader in diagnosing, treating and caring for injuries and illnesses of the brain, spine and nerves. Also setting the standard for regional stroke treatment, the Saint Francis Stroke Center has been awarded The Joint Commission's Certificate of Distinction in Disease-specific care for primary stroke treatment three times. Originally awarded this honor in 2005, the Saint Francis Stroke Center was reaccredited in 2007 and 2009 (accreditation is valid for two years). As a result of continued compliance with national standards and extraordinary outcomes, Saint Francis has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of ApprovalTM for stroke care.

The Saint Francis Medical Center Neurophysiology EEG Laboratory has earned a five-year accreditation from the Laboratory Accreditation Board of the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) for 2009-2014. Saint Francis is the only facility in Missouri to receive this honor and one of only 44 credentialed laboratories in the United States.

ABRET's lab accreditation process evaluates technical standards, the quality of the laboratory's output and lab management issues. Saint Francis met strict standards to be recognized as a place where patients and physicians can have confidence they are receiving quality diagnostics.
