Saint Francis Medical Center's Neurosciences Institute is a strong proponent of prevention and offers guidelines to avoid illness and injury related to:

Stroke
  • Avoid high blood pressure
  • Avoid high cholesterol levels
  • Don't smoke
  • Exercise regularly
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Limit alcohol consumption
  • Maintain a healthy diet
  • Manage stress continually
Traumatic brain injury
  • Always wear certified protective head gear when riding a bike, skateboard, inline skates, ATV, motorcycle and snowmobile
  • Always wear a safety belt when driving or riding in a motor vehicle
Spinal cord injury
  • Wear proper safety gear when playing sports
  • Check the depth of water before jumping in; never dive into water less than 9 feet deep or into above-ground pools
