Vein and Laser Center

The Vein and Laser Center at Saint Francis Medical Center provides advanced treatment and technology for varicose veins – bulging, twisted blood vessels in the legs that sometimes signal underlying problems (such as peripheral vascular disease) and often cause heavy, tired or achy legs.

Varicose veins begin to surface when valves within the vein can no longer effectively pump blood toward the heart. As a result, blood begins to pool in the veins and causes them to enlarge. To eliminate varicose veins, the Vein and Laser Center utilizes the revolutionary CoolTouch CTEV™ laser to close veins so blood bypasses it and circulates to healthy veins.

The minimally invasive outpatient procedure clears up varicose veins within days or weeks depending on the severity of the condition. Patients experience virtually no pain, scarring or bruising following the procedure, which requires just a minor incision and no stitches. John C. Wiggans, MD, FACS, board certified thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon on staff at the Medical Center, thoroughly evaluates each patient prior to deciding on a course of therapy for varicose veins.

Insurance coverage for the treatment of varicose veins varies depending on the diagnosis and previous medical therapies, such as the use of support stockings. The staff at the Vein and Laser Center works with patients to balance treatment options with the coverage offered by their insurance plans.
