Acid Reflux
Requires Action

stk79882cor

Acid reflux burns. This occurs when the lower esophageal sphincter is incompetent, resulting in acid fluxing up from the stomach into the esophagus, causing symptoms of  heartburn, indigestion, stomach pain and nausea – which can be severe enough to interfere with daily functioning.

“Acid reflux is a prevalent and significant disease,” says Rafid J. Hussein, DO, gastroenterologist at Saint Francis Medical Center. “Symptoms can occur at night and prevent sleep, and they can even imitate the signs of a heart attack. Since acid reflux can be a sign or precursor of other conditions, anyone 40 years of age or older who is having new symptoms should alert their physician. It’s important to make sure you don’t have precancerous lesions in your esophagus.”

be treated with medications and lifestyle changes.
