Annual Luncheon Keeps Women’s Heart Health Education Going Strong
The Heart to Heart Luncheon, hosted by Saint Francis Medical Center and supported by committee members from the community, is an annual event committed to raising awareness of women’s unique risk factors for heart disease.
Held in February as part of American Heart Month, the luncheon features educational exhibits and free screenings prior to the keynote speaker and meal, as well as door prizes and gifts for each attendee.
Any proceeds from the Heart to Heart Luncheons go to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Patient Scholarship fund at Saint Francis. These scholarships benefit female cardiac patients in need of financial assistance. Since the luncheons began in 2008, more than $23,000 has been raised and used through the scholarship. Funds raised from the 2012 luncheon covered 95 cardiac rehabilitation visits for eight female patients. If you cannot attend the luncheon but would like to give to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Scholarship fund, you can donate by clicking here.
The next luncheon is scheduled for Friday, February 22, 2013, at the Drury Lodge. Doors open at 10:30 am for exhibits and screenings and the keynote and meal begin at noon.
Zonya Foco, RD, CHFI, CSP, “America’s Nutrition Leader,” is returning as this year's keynote speaker! One of the luncheon's most popular speakers ever, Foco is an author, TV host and national speaker leading America in the fight against obesity, diabetes, cancer and heart disease through smart nutrition and fitness. She is the champion of the diet-downtrodden, a coach to the nutritionally challenged and a crusader with a common-sense approach to healthy eating.
