New to the Area?

Located just 100 miles south of St. Louis, Mo., and 170 miles west of Memphis, Tenn., Cape Girardeau, Mo., mixes big city excitement with small town charm. Easy access to two major Midwestern cities gives residents the opportunity to experience large festivals, lots of music and city life when they choose. But there is certainly enough to keep you busy right here in Cape. From historical sites and outdoor activities to college sporting events, Cape offers something for everyone.

Twenty-four city parks are venues for an array of outdoor activities. And the milder Missouri climate means you can enjoy the outdoors for much of the year. Go hiking or camping at Trail of Tears State Park, check out the four-mile La Croix Recreation walking/running/rollerblading trail or cheer on the many sports teams of Southeast Missouri State University. Boating and fishing are always recreation options, as there are also a number of lakes nearby, as well as the Mississippi River.

Cape Girardeau serves as a regional hub for healthcare, shopping, dining and education. And it is growing into a rural metropolis. New businesses are establishing locations in the city, including nightclubs and spas. And the low cost of living, excellent school system and safe environment are a draw for many people, including those looking to start a family.
