Risk Assessment

Heart Disease Risk Factors

There are several risk factors for heart disease, including:

  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Stress
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • Physical inactivity

Some of these risk factors can be avoided by making a change in lifestyle. For example, if you are a smoker, you can join a smoking cessation program in Cape Girardeau. However, you may not be aware of some of these risk factors, such as high blood pressure. Saint Francis Medical Center Heart Hospital offers several screenings and risk assessments to help you manage your risk of heart disease.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screenings

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a bulge in a major artery leading from the heart. If AAA is undetected it can lead to a deadly rupture. Saint Francis offers a simple ultrasound test every other month that can uncover AAA and determine your risk. The screening costs $35 and it requires a 12-hour fast for an accurate reading.

Upcoming Screening Dates:

  • August 17
  • October 19
  • December 14
