Vein and Laser Center

What are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins are bulging, twisted blood vessels in the legs that often cause heavy, tired, or achy legs. Sometimes these veins signal underlying problems, such as peripheral vascular disease. Varicose veins begin to surface when valves within the vein can no longer effectively pump blood toward the heart. As a result, blood begins to pool in the veins, which causes them to enlarge. Our Vein and Laser Center in Cape Girardeau offers an effective outpatient treatment.

Varicose Veins Treatment in Cape Girardeau

Located in the Heart Hospital, the Vein and Laser Center provides advanced treatment and technology for varicose veins. Our center in Cape Girardeau uses multiple treatment options to treat varicose veins from sclerotherapy (injections) to phlebectomy (removal of large surface veins) to laser ablation of poorly functioning veins. The laser technology closes varicose veins so blood bypasses them and circulates to healthy veins instead.

This minimally invasive, outpatient treatment clears up varicose veins within days or weeks depending on the severity of the condition. Patients experience virtually no pain, scarring or bruising following the procedure. Dr. Colleen Moore, a board certified vascular surgeon on staff at the Medical Center, thoroughly evaluates each patient prior to deciding on a treatment for varicose veins.

The Vein and Laser Center also manages and treats other vein diseases, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and spider veins.

Insurance Coverage

Procedures are often covered by insurance. Coverage for varicose veins treatment can vary depending on the diagnosis and previous medical therapies, such as the use of support stockings. Our Vein and Laser Center staff works with patients to balance treatment options with the coverage offered by their insurance plans.
