Saint Francis Medical Center’s Wellness department promotes healthy living through community awareness activities and progressive, holistic approaches to health education. Wellness programs offered at our campus in Cape Girardeau range from nutrition and exercise classes to a variety of health and wellness screenings.
Exercise Classes, Weight Loss and Nutrition Programs in Cape Girardeau
Heartwise Healthy Eating
Educational sessions focus on decreasing fat, cholesterol, and sodium intake in your diet and making total lifestyle changes. Sessions meet twice monthly (second Wednesday at noon and fourth Wednesday at 9 am). Cost is $10 and a physician referral is required. Call 573-331-5111 for more information.
The Healthy Weigh
This medical weight-loss program incorporates diet solutions from Health Management Resources (HMR), a weight management company that specializes in lifestyle education, personalized attention and follow-up. The Healthy Weigh emphasizes long-term weight and health management.
Nutritional activities, recipe sharing, and informational seminars are all part of this healthy club. This free program is held the fourth Thursday of the month at 5:30 pm in the Health and Wellness Center.
This six-week program promotes healthy eating habits and offers exercise tips and guidelines for dietary and cardiovascular health. Call 573-331-5399 for more information.
This health education lunch series is held the first Thursday of each month.
Whether you have a specific health problem (such as cholesterol or high blood pressure) that needs to be addressed or just want to improve your health through proper nutrition, a registered dietitian is available to discuss your unique concerns.
Move It and Lose It
A 10-week intensive program designed to help you make lifestyle, diet, and exercise changes. It includes:
- Group exercise circuit training two times a week
- Fitness Plus workout pass
- Weekly support group sessions led by registered dietitians, registered nurses and health promotion specialists
- Pre- and post-assessments
- Resting metabolic measurement
Heart and Health Screenings
A variety of heart and health screenings are offered every Wednesday from 7-10 am in the Health and Wellness Center lobby. No appointment is necessary for the following screenings:
- Cholesterol (total, HDL and LDL)
- Osteoporosis for women
- Triglycerides and TC/HDL risk ratio
- Free blood pressure checks
- Glucose screening for diabetes risk
Other Screenings and Wellness Services
Companies can register for executive physicals, health screenings, and wellness seminars. In addition, a variety of health services and screenings (such as health risk appraisals, cholesterol screenings, blood pressure and fitness testing) can be offered on-site through health fairs at your organization.
Individuals learn about their own unique metabolism and how many calories they need to lose weight or maintain their current weight.
Personal Wellness Profiles
This comprehensive assessment of your health covers over a dozen different wellness areas such as fitness, nutrition, heart health, stress levels, and cancer risk. The questionnaire can be personalized with your lab work, body measurements, and fitness testing results. The final 20-page report includes individualized recommendations and is presented by a fitness professional.
