Saint Francis Medical Center

Recognitions & Accreditations

Delivering the highest-quality care is at the core of everything we do. Saint Francis Healthcare System is taking that focus to the next level – with an array of initiatives and clinical partnerships geared toward improving the patient experience – to stay the premier healthcare provider in our five-state region.

Patient Safety and Quality Outcomes

20-21 Patient Safety and Quality Outcomes graphs key

Influenza Prevention

Influenza
Percentage of healthcare workers given influenza vaccination
(Higher percentages are better, October 2020 through March 2021)

Saint Francis requires all colleagues to be vaccinated for the flu to prevent possible exposure to our patients. Colleagues with a medical or religious exemption are required to wear a mask at all times during cold and flu season.

Stroke

Stroke
Percentage of patients who came to the Emergency Department with stroke symptoms who received brain scan results within 45 minutes of arrival
(Higher percentages are better, July through December 2020)

With a stroke, time lost is brain lost. Identifying the signs of a stroke and treating stroke efficiently and safely are critical.

Sepsis

Sepsis
Percentage of patients who received appropriate care for severe sepsis and septic shock
(Higher percentages are better, July through December 2020)

Sepsis is a complication from a severe infection that can cause organ damage and even death if not identified and treated quickly. Our sepsis treatment is better than state and national averages.

Pregnancy and Delivery

Pregnancy and Delivery
Percentage of mothers whose deliveries were scheduled one to two weeks early when a scheduled delivery was not medically necessary
(Lower percentages are better, July through December 2020

Our Family BirthPlace follows best practices and strategies that foster the best care for both the mom and baby. One of those best practices is to avoid elective deliveries, inducing labor before 39 weeks of gestation without medical necessity. Saint Francis outperforms Missouri and the U.S. when it comes to discouraging early elective deliveries.

Hospital Compare

Medicare’s Hospital Compare reports on timely and effective care in key areas of quality. Patients can learn how often Saint Francis Healthcare System and other hospitals perform recommended care for people with specific conditions. Quality data in this section can be found online at medicare.gov/hospitalcompare.

Hospital Compare Overall Ratings

In fiscal year 2020, Saint Francis Healthcare System received a four-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and key stakeholders developed a methodology that calculates a star rating in order to easily compare overall hospital quality. This rating takes into account both reimbursements received and quality of care provided. Saint Francis Healthcare System is proud to report an improvement in our rating from three to four stars from 2018 to 2019. Fewer than ten percent of hospitals in the nation receive a five-star rating.
