Graduate Nurse Residency Program

Bottom line: Saint Francis Healthcare System is committed to its nurses. And we offer one important benefit just for recent nursing graduates to make sure you have all the knowledge and tools you need to be successful at Saint Francis from the beginning of your career here.

That’s why recent nursing graduates complete a year-long program consisting of initial classroom orientation, eight weeks with a clinical preceptor, simulation classes such as Procedure Day, Nurse Residency classes covering a variety of topics from nursing foundations and soft skills to Saint Francis business skills and shadowing opportunities.

How You Get Ahead With Our Graduate Nurse Residency Program

Work With a Preceptor

You’ll put your education into practice while working one-on-one with an experienced nurse preceptor who’ll focus on your individual learning needs.

Focus on Clinical Competencies

You’ll focus on perfecting your clinical competencies, which includes developing your critical thinking skills along with your technical skills. A “procedure day” and facilitated lab practice will supplement the experiences you have in the nursing areas.

Rotate to Several Nursing Settings

Classroom/skill lab activities are incorporated into clinical rotations on nursing units.

Care Management

You’ll improve your collaborative, organizational and priority skills as you care for patients. Your preceptor supports you in decision making as you gain experience and self-confidence.

Exchange Ideas and Experiences

While you grow as a professional, your clinical training specialists will continually meet with you to assess your progress. You will be given the opportunity to share your experiences and offer insights to the program.
