Problems with your feet can be more bothersome than problems with the rest of your body, because you use your feet all day long. Here are common foot problems and their treatments:
Bunions: These occur when the lowest joint on your biggest toe becomes misaligned, causing the bone to jut out. “While surgery is the only cure for bunions, there are ways you can be made more comfortable,” says Zenon M. Duda, DPM, FACFS, podiatrist at Saint Francis Medical Center. “Choose softer shoes that conform to the shape of your foot and wear custom insoles.”
Corns and Calluses: You will experience corns and calluses when your shoes don’t fit well. Once or twice a week, rub the area with a pumice stone in the shower, and then rub a cream on it that is designed to soften the calluses. If they are painful or persist, seek an evaluation for underlying causes.
