Developmental Clinic Follows up with Babies

Babies at risk for developmental problems benefit from periodic visits with a neonatologist. In Saint Francis Medical Center’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Developmental Clinic, neonatologists follow up with babies after they are discharged.

“We see all babies who were born at 34 weeks’ gestation or less, as well as those who have genetic abnormalities, feeding or breathing difficulties, or any other major problems,” says Laura E. Al-Sayed, MD, FAAP, neonatologist, Saint Francis Medical Partner. “We are able to monitor their progress throughout the first 18 months of their life and assist their pediatrician in treating them. We want to catch developmental problems early so we can provide needed assistance.”
