When you are preparing for the birth of your child, you may feel like you have more questions than answers. Saint Francis Medical Center’s Family BirthPlace offers a wide range of classes for parents-to-be that will help you feel more equipped for such a big change.
The “Preparation for Childbirth” class teaches you about labor signs and stages, pain control options and labor techniques. “When you are developing your personal birth plan, it is helpful to have as much information as possible,” says Jacob P. Pyeatte Jr., MD, FACOG, obstetrician and gynecologist at Saint Francis. “Your labor and delivery may not happen exactly as planned, but this class helps you understand what might happen.”
Other popular classes include “Comfort During Labor” and a class about breast-feeding. “Mothers-to-be can learn about natural childbirth comfort measures, such as birthing balls, hydrotherapy and massage,” says Pyeatte.
