If you suspect you might have sleep problems, a home sleep study could be an option for you. In addition to offering sleep studies in a sleep lab, Saint Francis Medical Center’s Sleep Disorders Center provides an at-home option for patients who cannot have an in-lab sleep study. Many insurance providers will cover an at-home study.
“If you qualify for a home sleep study, you can pick up the necessary equipment at our Sleep Disorders Center,” says W. Keith Graham, MD, D-ABSM, pulmonologist and sleep medicine specialist at Saint Francis. “You will meet with a sleep technologist to learn how to properly place the sensors on your body. That night when you sleep, the sensors record information about your airflow, snoring, breathing effort, heart rate and oxygen levels.”
“In the morning,” Graham continues, “you will remove the sensors and return the equipment to the Sleep Disorders Center so we can download and analyze the data.” Home sleep studies are not for everyone and sometimes an in-lab study is still required to properly treat a patient.
