When children are sitting on the couch playing video games or just simply watching television, the children are not being active and not getting exercise. Children not moving could lead to big problems with childhood obesity.
“Kids need to get up and stay active,” says Maria Duroseau, MD, FAAP, pediatrician, Saint Francis Medical Partner. “We all need to help out and keep children active.”
The percentage of children who have obesity issues has more than tripled since the 1970s. Lack of physical activity and poor eating habits contribute to a child’s obesity.
“Parents have to figure out what are healthy choices for their children,” says Duroseau. “If the children see their parents reaching for sugary drinks instead of healthy water, the children will keep reaching for those drinks too. We need to reinforce healthy choices for children.”
