Low Testosterone

Men typically experience a decrease in their testosterone levels as they age. When testosterone levels fall below the normal range and symptoms become troublesome, a man is suffering from low testosterone, or low T.

Symptoms of low T can include:

Decreased sex drive: “There are many reasons why a man may have a low sex drive, including depression, diabetes and high blood pressure,” says Mitchell L. Ogles, MD, urologist who practices at Saint Francis Healthcare System. “But low T is often the culprit.”

Fatigue: A man with low T may be getting eight hours of sleep every night and still feel tired all day.

Ogles_MitchellDecrease in muscle mass: Low testosterone inhibits a man’s ability to build and strengthen muscles.

“Just because you have these symptoms does not mean you have low T,” says Ogles. “But you should ask your doctor to check. We can treat it with medications, such as testosterone gels or injections.”
