“Graduates” of Saint Francis Medical Center’s Center for Joint Replacement & Revision had the opportunity to dance the night away at “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” the Center’s annual celebration, on June 7. More than 200 attendees enjoyed dancing, hors d’oeuvres, door prizes and portrait photography at the event, held at The Plaza Conference Center in Cape Girardeau.
“These patients worked hard to be where they are today,” says Brian C. Schafer, MD, orthopedic surgeon at Saint Francis. “They underwent knee or hip replacement surgery, and then worked their way through intensive rehabilitation. It is a pleasure to watch my former patients dancing again.”
The Center offers a unique approach to surgery and rehabilitation – patients are not treated as “sick” but as healthy adults undergoing a procedure that will allow them to return to an active life. Family members are involved throughout the process, with one serving as the patient’s “coach.”
