New Online Interpreter System Improves Care

Foreign language speaking patients now have an easier way to communicate with doctors and other caregivers at Saint Francis Medical Center. With Saint Francis’ new online, on-demand video interpreter system, patients no longer have to wait for an interpreter to arrive at the hospital or doctor’s office.

Stratus Video’s Video Remote Interpreting system is an iPad-based application that allows caregivers and their patients to communicate through a live, online interpreter. Interpreters are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for patients who need their services. Interpreter services are available for 175 different spoken languages and American Sign Language (ASL).

The system helps patients more easily discuss symptoms and treatments, share medication allergies and understand instructions for follow-up care. Improved communication creates a safer patient environment. It also meets all patient privacy requirements and has been proven to be dependable.
