Hundreds of babies will benefit from Saint Francis Medical Center’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Follow-up Clinic, thanks to funds from Saint Francis Foundation. The Follow-up Clinic follows NICU graduates at risk for developmental issues following their discharge from the NICU. The unit has expanded from three to five rooms and added a large area where therapists can work with babies.
“Babies at risk for developmental problems or with ongoing medical problems require follow-up care,” says Laura E. Al-Sayed, MD, FAAP, neonatologist at Saint Francis. “When they come to our clinic, they can see a neonatologist, nurse practitioner, and physical, occupational and speech therapists – all in one place.”
Now that the clinic has expanded and is located conveniently just outside the NICU, the staff is able to provide services for a larger population of babies aged birth to 18 months.
