An employer’s wellness program could help you identify previously undiagnosed health conditions. Employers offer wellness programs to promote healthy lifestyles and ensure their employees treat illnesses they may not be aware of. Wellness profiles commonly include blood pressure monitoring, biometric blood test, recording of BMI and waist circumference.
“It is surprising how many people do not know they have Type 2 diabetes,” says Glen E. Cooper, DO, MPH, MRO, occupational medicine physician, Saint Francis Medical Partner. “They may find it convenient to undergo a blood sugar test when it is offered through work, and then learn that they have been experiencing problems for years.”
Some employees may even learn they have heart disease after undergoing a wellness profile. It is important that they seek help right away to avoid a life-threatening incident.
