The Heart to Heart Luncheon, hosted by Saint Francis Medical Center and supported by committee members from the community, is an annual event committed to raising awareness of women’s unique risk factors for heart disease.
Held each spring, the luncheon features educational exhibits and free screenings prior to the keynote speaker and meal, as well as door prizes and gifts for each attendee.
The 2016 keynote speaker is Adi Mehta, MD, endocrinologist at the Cleveland Clinic, who will speak about “Cardiovascular Health in Women after Menopause.” Dr. Mehta is a researcher and physician on staff at Cleveland Clinic, specializing in Type I and Type II diabetes, thyroid issues, reproductive endocrinology, and women’s health.
He is a member of numerous societies in both the USA and Canada including the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the Endocrine Society and the American Diabetes Association. He is listed in “Best Doctors in America: 2003-2004 and 2005-2006,” and was awarded the Outstanding Clinical Endocrinologist Award for the year 2009 by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
His extensive research career includes more than 160 scientific presentations and more than 200 publications, mostly in peer-reviewed journals.
Proceeds from the Heart to Heart Luncheon go to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Patient Scholarship fund at Saint Francis. These scholarships benefit female cardiac patients in need of financial assistance. Since the luncheons began in 2008, more than $45,000 has been raised and used through the scholarship.
The next luncheon is scheduled for Friday, April 29, 2016, at The Plaza by Ray’s. Doors open at 10:30 am for exhibits and screenings and the keynote and meal begin at noon.
Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Sponsored tables of eight are available for $250. Order online here. For more information, call 573-331-5327.
