Today, Healthgrades® announced Saint Francis Medical Center received the Outstanding Patient Experience™ Award for the eighth time (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017), ranking in the top 10 percent nationwide. Saint Francis Medical Center is the only facility in Cape Girardeau County to achieve this award in 2017, which recognizes hospitals for providing outstanding patient experience based on 10 measures related to doctor and nurse communication, hospital cleanliness and noise levels, and medication and post-discharge care instructions.
As the leading provider of information to help consumers make informed decisions about physicians and hospitals, Healthgrades evaluated patient surveys from Saint Francis and more than 3,000 other hospitals around the nation. Survey questions focused on patient perspectives of their care in the hospital, with topics ranging from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to pain management and responsiveness to patient needs. The measures also included whether a patient would recommend the hospital to friends or family.
“Achieving trust through positive patient relations has never been more important in healthcare,” says Steven C. Bjelich, FACHE-D, President and Chief Executive Officer of Saint Francis Healthcare System. “We’re proud of our staff’s focus on patient-centered values— and their advocacy of positive patient experiences through quality skills and hospitalwide standards.”
“Patient experience and satisfaction metrics resonate with consumers as they evaluate hospitals and select where they want to receive care,” said Brad Bowman, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “We commend those hospitals that have achieved the Healthgrades 2017 Outstanding Patient Experience Award for their commitment to delivering superior care experiences to patients during a hospital stay.”
