“We are excited to offer patients in our Intensive Care units another layer of care with the addition of Dr. Villanueva and Dr. Fugaro,” says Dr. Thomas Diemer, MD, chief medical officer. “Adding the Intensivist Department allows us to give more specialized care to our patients and their families.”
Prior to coming to Saint Francis, Dr. Villanueva served as an intensivist and UCLA Clinical Instructor (volunteer) at Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, California. He earned his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed an internal medicine residency at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York, New York. He completed a critical care medicine fellowship at Stanford Hospital in Stanford, California.
Dr. Fugaro came to Saint Francis from Landmark Hospital, an affiliate of Saint Francis where he served as the medical director. He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and completed his residency at Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan.
Intensivists are specially trained healthcare professionals who are experts at treating critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit. They have an in-depth understanding of in-hospital medicine and are available round-the-clock.
