Saint Francis Healthcare System recently welcomed Gina Raffety and Janet Varnon as new board members.
“We are honored to have these two respected women as members of our board,” says Steven C. Bjelich, FACHE-D, Saint Francis President and Chief Executive Officer. “Thanks to the wise guidance of our boards of directors, Saint Francis is well equipped to face the challenges of the future.”
Raffety is not new to Saint Francis; she is currently president of the Saint Francis Foundation board of directors, where she has served since 2012. She is publisher of The Cash-Book Journal newspaper in Jackson, Mo., and the managing member of MCLB Management Company, LLC. She serves on the North American Association of Inventory Services board of directors, vice president of Jackson Publishing Company and Associated Inventory Specialists and is a member of LaCroix United Methodist Church. Raffety and her husband, Tom, live in Cape Girardeau and have four children.
Varnon is senior vice president of Capaha Bank, where she has worked since 2001. She is vice chairman of the St. Andrew Lutheran Church board of directors, where she has also been a member for 25 years, and an executive board member and president of the finance committee at Saxony Lutheran High School. She and her husband, Tony, live in Cape Girardeau and have two children.
The board appoints all directors and officers of the Medical Center. Under the bylaws, members should demonstrate an interest in Catholic healthcare and community affairs, and leadership in health, welfare, education, religious and other service organizations, or should be otherwise qualified as determined by the board. Directors serve for a term of three years, with the potential for three more three-year terms. Prior to their appointment, members must be approved by the Bishop of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau.
