Today, Healthgrades awarded Saint Francis Medical Center the Outstanding Patient Experience Award for the seventh time (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016). The Medical Center was the only facility in Cape Girardeau County to win this award, which recognizes hospitals for providing outstanding patient experience based on 10 measures related to doctor and nurse communication, hospital cleanliness and noise levels, and medication and post-discharge care instructions.
Patients gave the hospital an overall rating of 9 or 10 (high) and 83 percent said they would definitely recommend Saint Francis to others. Additionally, Saint Francis patients rated caregiver communications high, with 86 percent saying their doctors “always” communicated well and 85 percent saying nurses “always” communicated well. After placing in the top 10 percent of hospitals evaluated in 2015, Saint Francis rose to the top five percent in 2016.
“Patient satisfaction is a top priority for Saint Francis,” says Steven C. Bjelich, FACHE-D, President and Chief Executive Officer, Saint Francis Healthcare System. “We work very hard to ensure every patient is treated as an individual and with dignity and respect. The high praise for Saint Francis comes from the people who matter the most – our patients.”
The award is based on responses to the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). These hospitals received the highest scores from their patients for providing a positive experience during a hospital stay.
Healthgrades is the leading online resource for information about physicians and hospitals. Saint Francis was evaluated against nearly 4,000 other hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys from past patients to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
