Saint Francis Medical Center announces another Fall Coaches Clinic, set for Thursday, October 18, from 8 am to 1:30 pm in the Medical Center’s Health and Wellness Center, 150 S. Mount Auburn Road, Entrance 8.
High school coaches have many roles, and Saint Francis’ recurring Coaches Clinics help them balance these roles so coaches and athletes can be their very best. The program will focus on a variety of topics relevant to today’s coaches and athletes. This fall’s event features four speakers. They include:
- Robert Stutman – As one of the nation’s leading drug experts and founder of The Stutman Group, Stutman speaks on the nation’s prescription drug abuse epidemic and shares effective prevention strategies for today’s school systems. Local law enforcement representative, Detective Bill Bohnert, will also share substance abuse problems found in area schools.
- Chris Nowinski – Sports Legacy Institute President and CEO Nowinski returns to Coaches Clinic with important concussion updates. He is a post-concussion syndrome sufferer and a nationally recognized expert who speaks to alert coaches, parents and athletes on this public health issue.
- Heidi J. Hunter, MD – Hunter is a physiatrist and brain injury specialist at Saint Francis’ Concussion Clinic. She sees many concussion cases due to sporting or other traumatic events. She will share how the Saint Francis Concussion Clinic helps coaches and athletes alike.
- Mark Alnutt – Southeast Missouri State University athletic director Alnutt will discuss the many challenges that Division I athletic directors face today.
“Saint Francis has been hosting the Coaches Clinics since 2005,” says Steven C. Bjelich, FACHE-D, President and Chief Executive Officer at Saint Francis. “These clinics make coaches more aware of current issues and opportunities. This knowledge helps them to better achieve excellence for their programs … and keep their athletes safe and healthy.”
