Grief is not a straight path, and finding steady ground can feel overwhelming. Stepping Stones is a monthly bereavement support group that meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 6 pm in the Saint Agatha Conference Room at Saint Francis Medical Center. Unlike groups that focus only on hospice families, Stepping Stones is open to anyone in the community who has experienced the death of a loved one. We also welcome Saint Francis Medical Center colleagues who may be facing caregiver fatigue or the cumulative grief that often accompanies caring for others in times of illness and crisis.
Caregiver fatigue, sometimes referred to as compassion fatigue, can occur when the emotional demands of caring for others whether as a family member or healthcare professional begin to take a toll. Over time, this fatigue can affect mental, emotional and even physical well-being, leaving caregivers feeling drained, disconnected or overwhelmed. Recognizing this reality, Stepping Stones provides a safe space for caregivers and community members alike to share experiences and learn practical coping tools.
The group also addresses the reality of complicated grief, which can happen when the grieving process feels stuck or intensified. Unlike the natural ebb and flow of grief, complicated grief may interfere with daily functioning and create long-lasting distress. By coming together in community, participants can learn ways to recognize these patterns, find support in others with similar experiences, and take small, steady steps toward healing.
Each session includes opportunities for sharing, learning and support in a confidential and compassionate environment. Whether your loss is recent or years past, or whether you are carrying the silent weight of professional caregiving, Stepping Stones invites you to take the next step toward healing with others who understand.
