Anyone who has been diagnosed w/a genetic mutation, especially a rare one that is still being researched, will attest to the frustration of meeting with drs who don't know much beyond textbook info about your condition. Ms. Baxter is a specialist with valuable info for not only patients but their entire team of drs. It's rare to be able to spend a long time with specialists, but Ms. Baxter did just that- we went over my family history in detail, my screening plan, research info, and she followed up later with answers to questions I had that required further investigation. I now feel confident that the most up to date information concerning my condition and treatment will be streamlined from her to myself and team of drs. Before our mtg I left every dr appt with "they don't know what to do", but I left her office feeling like while research is still evolving, someone on my team will pull it all together. Making the in person connection is so valuable vs online or via phone.
Melanie was so so easy to work with. She made us feel very comfortable and taught us quite a bit in our meeting! I reached out with questions a couple times through email, and I swear she would respond within 10 minutes! My husband has a cancer mutation(s) that run in the family. As a 35 year old wife with a young daughter, I’m wanting to get ahead of anything that could sneak up on us. Melanie never made me feel paranoid or like a hypochondriac. Love her!!
It was refreshing to be listened to. She really took the time to delve into family medical history and was thorough in explaining the process of testing. She seems to really care for people. What a wonderful quality!
