A Comprehensive Breast Health Center
The Saint Francis Breast Care Center provides education, examinations, testing and treatment at its state-of-the-art facility, which offers both comfort and convenience. The American College of Radiology (ACR) designates the Saint Francis Breast Care Center as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. This ACR recognition ensures patients that our technologists are certified, have achieved high practice standards and have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy and breast ultrasound, including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy — all the latest tools for early detection and treatment of breast cancer. On-site radiologists and surgeons collaborate and provide patients timely results. Because nearly 10 percent of breast cancers are identified by physical exams, we also offer a clinical breast exam by a registered nurse.
Leading-edge Diagnostic Technology
Breast cancer is the most commonly-diagnosed cancer in women. For this reason, we have invested in the latest technology to aid in early detection, diagnosis, treatment and support, including:
- Tomosynthesis mammography
The Breast Care Center at Saint Francis Medical Center offers tomosynthesis mammography, which detects the earliest stages of breast cancer. This revolutionary mammography machine uses 3-D, X-ray equipment to provide a clearer view of the breast through overlapping tissue, which allows up to 15 percent better detection. It also:- Reduces the number of callbacks for additional testing
- Shows the inner structure of the breast without distortion or shadowing
- Offers increased comfort, because 2-D and 3-D images can be produced in a single exposure, providing fine details not seen in the traditional digital mammogram
- Provides improved imaging for more dense breast tissue
- Breast ultrasound
- Stereotactic breast biopsy
Advanced Breast Cancer Treatments
The Cancer Institute at Saint Francis Medical Center offers patients the following comprehensive oncology services:
- Surgery (lumpectomy, mastectomy, double mastectomy)
- Chemotherapy
- Radiation therapy
Breast Cancer Patient Navigator
At the Saint Francis Breast Care Center, a breast cancer navigator provides individualized guidance to women who have received abnormal results or who have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. She helps women through every aspect of scheduling, testing and treatment, dispelling fear, identifying support resources and being a reassuring friend to patients and their families.
