Breast Health

A Comprehensive Breast Health Center

Womancare provides education, examinations, testing and treatments through its state-of-the-art facility, which offers both comfort and convenience. The American College of Radiology (ACR) designates Womancare as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. This ACR recognition shows that our technologists are certified, have achieved high practice standards and have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy)—all the latest tools for early detection and treatment. Onsite radiologists and surgeons collaborate on breast cancer cases and give patients timely results on mammography tests. Because nearly 10 percent of breast cancers are identified with physical exams, we also offer a clinical breast exam by a registered nurse.

Cutting-Edge Diagnostic Technology A Comprehensive Health Center

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. For this reason, we have invested in the latest technology to aid in early detection, diagnosis, treatment and support, including:

  • Tomosynthesis mammography
  • Breast ultrasound
  • Stereotactic breast biopsy

Tomosynthesis Mammography

Womancare at Saint Francis Medical Center offers tomosynthesis mammography, which detects the earliest stages of breast cancer. This revolutionary mammography machine uses 3-D, X-ray equipment to provide a clearer view of the breast through overlapping tissue, which allows up to 15 percent better detection. It also:

  • Reduces the number of callbacks for additional testing
  • Shows the inner structure of the breast without distortion or shadowing
  • Offers increased comfort, because 2-D and 3-D images can be produced in a single exposure, providing fine details not seen in the traditional digital mammogram
  • Provides improved imaging for more dense breast tissue
