What is a Hospitalist?

Hospitalists are doctors who focus on the general medical care of hospitalized patients. At Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, these physicians are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Hospitalist’s Job

Saint Francis’ hospitalist program leads to shorter Medical Center stays, decreased costs, and better care for patients. Hospitalists are dedicated to coordinating and managing the healthcare needs of each patient from admission to discharge, and help ensure a seamless continuum of care among primary care doctors, physician specialists, and inpatient care providers.

Hospitalists at Saint Francis Medical Center are also available for consultation on complex medical issues for patients undergoing treatment by a surgeon or specialist.

I was air lifted from Anna to St Frances and spent a couple days in ICU for a severe COPD flare. Also spent 3 more days in regular room. I was treated with kindness, respect and grace by the hospitalist and nurses alike. They helped me to get much better before leaving. I also had a gift from God with a CNA named Rachquel, who deserves special recognition for going above and beyond in her knowledge and kindness. She helped me numerous times. She gave me a shower and I did not even get out of breath which hasn't happened in a few years. She deserves a raise and at the very least, some sort of award or certificate. Good ones like her are very hard to find and we need to keep them when we do find them. They are rare nowadays and hard to come by. I just can't say enough good things about her. Hopefully I won't have to come back to the hospital but if I do, at Frances would be my first choice. Thank you so much for helping me. Karen Calvert

I highly recommend Dr. Lawrence to any of my family or friends. He always goes above and beyond for my children. He actually genially cares about his patients & doesn’t rush in or out like some other doctors we have had a bad experience with them doing that. He takes his time and cares to hear your concerns and never dismissed a concern you have! He is God sent.
