Saint Francis Earns Grade “A”

Saint Francis Medical Center earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog that sets standards for excellence in patient care. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

“We are proud and impressed by the excellence in patient care and quality delivered to patients in our region,” said Justin Davison, President and Chief Executive Officer of Saint Francis Healthcare System. “This is a meaningful acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication of so many.”

“To achieve this rating, the team has worked hard to implement best practices, adopt new technologies and foster a culture of excellence among our staff. I want to thank our dedicated team for their efforts and our patients for their trust. We continually strive for improvement and excellence in everything we do,” said Debby Sprandel, RN, BSN, MSN, MBA-HA, Chief Nursing Officer.

“This achievement is possible because of our focus on safety and quality with the patient at the center of our decisions. Our physicians, providers and staff work diligently to provide the best possible care for our patients and their families,” said Andrew Godbey, MD, MSPH, Chief Physician Executive. “We are honored to receive this achievement, but we are not complacent. We will continue to strive for excellence in everything we do. I would like to thank our community for trusting us with their health and well-being.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually in the fall and spring.

“Earning an ‘A’ Grade means Saint Francis made a true commitment to put patients first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”
