Advanced Orthopedic Specialists is committed to providing patients access to the latest treatments and advanced techniques, such as electrodiagnostic testing (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS). Our physiatrist, Bernard C. Burns, D.O. is trained and experienced in diagnosing, evaluating, and treating physical discomforts due to the musculoskeletal and nervous systems.
In order to discover the source of your nerve and muscle pain, our doctors will perform an electrodiagnostic consultation. The test consists of a needle electrode examination and nerve conduction study, which tests how well signals travel along a nerve and helps find the cause of abnormal nerve function—i.e., in the motor neurons, nerve roots, peripheral nerves, neuromuscular junction, or muscle—and establish the underlying process in these disorders. Clinical problems of weakness, atrophy, fatigability, cramps, muscle movements, stiffness, pain, and numbness may be investigated by these studies.
Indications for Electrodiagnostic Medicine:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Cubital tunnel syndrome
- Radial nerve palsy
- Peroneal nerve palsy
- Tarsal tunnel syndrome
- Radiculopathy in the cervical and lumbar regions
- Brachial and lumbosacral plexopathy
- Peripheral nerve injuries
- Pain, numbness, or weakness of upper or lower extremities
